Longest experiment sees pitch drop after 84-year wait
The longest-running experiment in the world has for the first time glimpsed a drop of viscous pitch fall – although the event comes too late for one man

Prior to the 1930s, cars in both America and Europe had been fairly utilitarian, boxy-looking affairs. During the 1930s, advanced (for the times) wind-tunnel testing produced aspirational, forward-looking car designs that elevated auto design to the level of art. In June 2018, the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Oregon showcased some of these streamlined, rolling sculptures in their “Shape of Speed” exhibit.
